blue square dot Brian Wilson appears on Sandra Boynton's new album project, Blue Moo: 17 Jukebox hits From Way Back Never. Brian's contribution is called “Speed Turtle,” a song written by Sandra Boynton and Michael Ford, with vocals arranged and sung by Brian. (10/11/07)

blue square dot Brian Wilson returns to London's Royal Festival Hall in September for six nights that will include the world premiere of a brand-new work. Commissioned by Southbank Centre for its opening season, the piece, titled That Lucky Old Sun, will consist of ten songs and five narratives, focusing on themes of life in Los Angeles. Brian's lyrical collaborators include Van Dyke Parks and Scott Bennett. The shows, taking place September 10-16, 2007, will see Brian perform a diverse show of music including classic songs that he's never played live before, as well as at least one song in honor of the 40th anniversary of the release of the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper album. Brian's website has made “Midnight's Another Day” and “Forever She'll Be My Surfer Girl,” from That Lucky Old Sun, available for listening. (updated 9/7/07)

blue square dot As a follow-up to Sounds of Summer, The Beach Boys have released a new compilation CD, The Warmth of the Sun. This new collection of 28 career-spanning tracks, hand-selected and sequenced by The Beach Boys themselves, includes “Sail On Sailor,” “The Little Girl I Once Knew,” and “Feel Flows.” The album is available in CD and digital download formats. There is also a podcast series on the album, available from iTunes, which features new and archival commentary from the individual Beach Boys on each track. blue square dot Billy Hinsche is joining Brian Wilson on Brian's European tour this summer. Alan Jardine was originally slated to be part of this tour as well, but has withdrawn to finish work on his upcoming solo album A Postcard from California. Brian has recorded some vocals for Al's solo album and is expected to add some more when he returns from Europe. (updated 6/13/07)

blue square dot Beach Boys historian Jon Stebbins' long-awaited biography David Marks: The Lost Beach Boy is now out in the UK and will be published in the US in May. The US launch party is scheduled for May 29, 2007, at Rusty's Surf Ranch on the Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA. Confirmed guests include Jon Stebbins, David Marks, Jeff Foskett, Billy Hinsche, Gary Griffin, Scott Bennett, Probym Gregory, and Dennis Diken. Longtime Beach Boys Band member Mike Meros passed away on December 26, 2007, of a heart attack. Mike played keyboards with the BBs' supporting band throughout the '80s and '90s. (12/27/07)
